
Nathan Metzger has nearly 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer handling a heavy civil litigation defense practice. Mr. Metzger was born in Columbia City, Indiana on December 30, 1968. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Metzger attended the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with an honors degree from the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors Program in 1993. The University of Texas Plan II Honors Program is considered by many to be the Ivy League Liberal Arts education of the southwest, see www.utexas.edu/cola/progs/plan2/about/. While in college, Mr. Metzger received recognition on the Dean’s List and was awarded the University of Texas Liberal Arts Outstanding Achievement Award in 1991.
Mr. Metzger received an Academic Fellowship to attend the Indiana University School of Law, graduating in 1996. During his time in law school, he received recognition on the Dean’s List and was an Editor for the Indiana University Law School Journal of Global Legal Studies.
Following law school, Mr. Metzger moved to Phoenix, Arizona and in 1998 was Law Clerk and Bailiff to the Honorable Anna Baca of the Maricopa County Superior Court, where he gained an insider’s understanding of the jury system and the keys to successful civil trial practice.
Prior to joining the Grasso Law Firm as Senior Partner, Mr. Metzger founded and managed the Metzger Law Firm from 2014 to 2025. His practice has focused on defending wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases. Mr. Metzger has substantial experience defending cases involving: dram shop liability; gas explosion accidents; amputation; paraplegia; quadriplegia; complex regional pain syndrome; brain injury; trucking accidents; construction accidents; automobile accidents; defective products; premises liability; nursing home negligence; and allegations of sexual molestation.
Mr. Metzger has successfully defended numerous cases in jury trials, arbitrations and mediations in federal and state courts. Mr. Metzger has practiced all over the State of Arizona, including the Superior Courts of: Maricopa County; Mohave County; Gila County; Cochise County; Pima County; Pinal County; Coconino County; Santa Cruz County; Yavapai County and Yuma County. Mr. Metzger has also defended numerous cases around the State of Arizona on Indian Tribal lands, including the Colorado River Indian Tribe, Ft. McDowell Yavapai Nation, and the Gila River Indian Community.
Insurance coverage analysis (including the taking of Examinations Under Oath) and insurance bad faith defense are additional areas of expertise for Mr. Metzger and the firm.
When Mr. Metzger is not practicing law, you can find him on the slopes, hiking on one of Arizona’s many scenic trails, playing chess, and spending time with family.
